Letso The Dancer

Kekeletso Angela Motloheloa, mostly called “Keke or Letso”. She’s a 22 years old lady, born on the 25th of April 1997. She is very driven in everything that she set her mind to. She’s passionate about dancing. She says, “Dancing has been part of who I am ever since I was a little girl, and the love for dancing grows each and every day. My happiness comes from dancing.

I found myself, my inner strength, my faith, overcoming insecurities and found my power in dancing. I used to doubt myself so much in everything that I do, thinking that I would never be enough in anything because I was weakened by judgements. Now I have grown into being this beautiful, talented and strong Black African woman.”

We asked Letso few questions to learn more about her and I hope you’ll learn more about and from her:

ARE YOU CURRENTLY STUDYING? (if yes, state what you are studying?)

"Yes I am studying. I am a student at the University Of Johannesburg, Studying Retail Business Management."

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO BE A DANCER AND WHEN DID YOU START TO BE A DANCER?

"At a very young age, I would continuously watch artists such as Beyonce and Ciara on Television. Being me, I would then go to my room and imitate their dance moves. My mom also inspired me to dance. She was a Pantsula dancer. She tried teaching few moves. I was really shy to show the world that I can dance until grade 7 at our farewell function, I just decided to let go of the self-doubt. Since then I have never been scared."

IS THERE ANY CAREER THAT YOU’D LIKE TO ASPIRE IN?

"At the moment, all that is in my mind is pursuing my dream of becoming one of the South Africa’s best choreographers. I would also love to start up my own dance company for those who aspire to be dancers. "

DO YOU BELIEVE IN BLACK EMPOWERMENT?

"Yes, Absolutely! Black Empowerment is what I stand for. Considering how society is evolved, Black Empowerment has excelled way beyond words, and as a young black woman, I believe I am also capable of empowerment."

IS THERE A QUOTE OR SAYING DO YOU LIVE BY?

“If you can dream it, you can do It” – Walt Disney

DO YOU HAVE A MENTOR OR ROLE MODEL? (if yes, kindly state who and why)

"My Mother of course. Nobody in this world has ever loved me the way she does. She has supported, guided and motivated me to live my life like its golden. My mother has been there for me through the good and bad times and has always reminded me to keep going despite the fear. "

WHAT CHALLENGES DO YOU FACE ON A DAILY BASIS AS A DANCER?

"I struggle with overcoming self-doubt. I often feel like some certain moves are not good enough for people to see. And I am challenged by my knee injury too, it often gets hard for me to dance sometimes."

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN FIVE TO TEN YEARS?

"I see myself married or engaged, having a stable job and having children. I pray for this so much because I think about it daily. I see myself inspiring souls that suffer from depression, self-doubt and fear. I see myself being a stronger woman than I already am, a woman who looks back on her life and is proud of the journey she has taken in this gift called life."

APART FROM DANCING, WHAT ELSE INSPIRES YOU?

"I am inspired by helping people. Nothing warms up my heart like helping people with what they need. "

IF THERE WAS ANYTHING IN THE WORLD YOU COULD CHANGE, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?

"I would change how this world have turned into a hateful place to live in. Spread love and care."

IF YOU HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO ADVICE GENERATIONS YOUNGER THAN YOU, WHAT WOULD YOU ADVICE?

"Never give up on what your heart and mind wants and what really makes you happy. Self-Love starts with focusing on what really matters to you, it starts with loving you, and it starts with you giving your full potential in everything that you do. Be proud of you, despite of your fall backs in life."

WHAT DOES IT TAKE FOR SOMEONE TO BE A GOOD DANCER?

"Confidence is key! Embracing your personality as a dancer is also important. Never stop dancing and always dance. Consistency builds up to growth."

WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT?

"How I handle pain and how I dance best defines how I feel."

HOW IMPORTANT IT IS FOR SOMEONE TO SET THEIR GOALS?

"Setting goals for yourself is important because it helps you in overcoming the journey of life, you are able to achieve things that matters to you. All of this leads to self-fulfilment."

WHAT DOES SUCCESS MEAN TO YOU?

"Success is happiness for me. Money or wealth has nothing to do with success for me."

DO YOU BELIEVE AT THIS POINT OF TIME, YOU ARE CLOSE TO STRIVING TOWARDS YOUR SUCCESS?

"For as long as I am dancing, I still rise. So yes I believe."
