In this issue we also talk to a feminist, on what it means to be a feminist, why she became one and all the other questions society would want to know about feminism. The point is that feminism isn’t an elite club or a cult or a radical political group, and it doesn’t have a rulebook. If you believe men and women are all human beings and should have equal rights, you are a feminist Period!. After talking to Namhla about her feminism journey(s) I realised that feminism isn't a movement based on hate for men but a movement that wants the right for women to have choice and advocacy.
Feminism has so many aspects of it and so many reasons to being a feminist and being into feminism. Daily we hear about women being killed/raped/sexually harassed in our country by her spouse/boyfriend/stranger etc. It has become a norm in our country and it shouldn't be because it ruins our image ad a whole. To be honest I still can't get it, why'd a man have to kill/rape a woman because she said no, because she said "its over"? What could be the main reason to so much brutality? What leads men to a point whereby rape is an option to a " no"? Why do they kill their partners? Is it because of insecurities? Is it because society gives them the right to advocacy? What is the root of this issue? Why is society not taking this issue into their own hands? Why aren't other men calling out their brothers, friends, sisters etc ? Why isn't the government behind feminism? So many questions but yet less answers. I believe the only way to get to the bottom of this is to get to the root of it all.
Its pretty saddening as a woman to live in a country whereby you have to live in fear of the people who are meant to love and protect us. Its become a norm for us women to live in fear. Yes, maybe your spouse may not be abusive but another man out there could be.
Is this a country you want your daughters to live and grow up in? To what point should it get to for society to stop being ignorant about this? To what point ? This part f the magazine hit the fan.
Man or woman – is that all there is? For those people who do not feel at home in either of these categories, there is nothing but confusion. Today’s feminism, in any case, is building on the diversity of human identities: Does, however, the difference between man and woman have to be so black and white? Isn’t this classification of gender oppressive?
Also in this issue we include poetry and creative writing from our Glitch Team
